Former
Texas Broadcaster Publishes Book
E. P.
‘Masters’ Garth, a longtime Texas broadcaster has published his
first novel, Off the Air: a Pat Cassidy Novel. Garth, a
former sportscaster in Texas and Louisiana, created a character
based on some of his experiences in radio broadcasting. The
story takes place in Texas, where Garth has spent most of his
life; however, some of the text describes local areas of Brady,
Brownwood, and Ennis where he also used to live. The novel is
the first of a series involving pulp fiction’s latest crime
buster, Pat Cassidy.
The
intrigue evolves around the fictional 1976 gubernatorial campaign of
Texas billionaire Tom Calloway, the Mayor of Fort Worth, and
Texas’ favorite son. In cahoots with union boss ‘Big Jake’
Riley, they conspire to steal the election for governor.
When Cassidy is forced from his
job in Fort Worth he is exiled to Brownwood where, with the help
of his boss, Jeb Glasscock, and Brown County Deputy Sheriff, J.T.
Lambert, they unravel the mystery surrounding the death of his
best friend and the cover-up involving the most powerful
politician in the Lone Star State.
As the story
begins in his
hometown of Fort Worth, Cassidy is building a radio career after
a successful amateur boxing career and a tour of duty in
Vietnam. Cassidy overhears Calloway and Riley
discussing their plans and confides in his friend. Brett
Tucker, the WFTW Radio newshound, uncovers a source that has the goods on
both Calloway and Riley. Brett’s evidence triggers a chain
reaction across Texas involving murder and deceit.
Garth has already started on the second novel in the Pat Cassidy
series, entitled Out of Touch. Expect to see it
published in July 2010.
